UniSQ shares a duty with you to ensure that all hazards associated with your work are identified and properly managed. You may also be required to submit your own risk assessment documents, depending on the type of work.
Some common hazards at UniSQ campuses may include:
• Working at heights (e.g. roof access, ladder use)
• Electrical work and exposure to live systems
• Manual handling and lifting tasks
• Noise exposure from machinery or equipment
• Hazardous substances including chemicals used in labs or maintenance
• Traffic and pedestrian interactions during deliveries or construction • Weather-related risks such as heat, storms, or slippery surfaces

Asbestos Awareness
Some UniSQ buildings may contain Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs). Contractors must request and review the Asbestos Register before commencing work and comply with UniSQ’s Asbestos Management Plan (AMP) and relevant legislation. Work must not begin in areas with suspected ACMs unless assessed by a competent person. Contractors must avoid disturbing ACMs, report any damage or concerns immediately, and follow all control measures including PPE and safe work practices. Only licensed asbestos removalists may perform asbestos removal work. Any asbestos-related incidents or hazards must be reported to Facilities Management and the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Team. UniSQ’s goal is to eliminate ACMs from all facilities, and contractors are expected to support this objective through safe and compliant practices.
Identifying and controlling these risks is essential to keeping yourself and others safe while working at UniSQ.
